    Belmont successfully completes ACHS periodic review

    On 20 and 21 June, Belmont Private Hospital underwent its periodic review with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS), a recognised leading health care accreditation body in Australia. We are pleased to advise that our Hospital surpassed all accreditation requirements and meets all ten National Safety and Quality in Health Service (NSQHS) Standards. Following is a summary of the review:

    Outstanding culture, professionalism and team work exists throughout the Hospital.

    Extremely high presentation of the facility.

    Exceptional compliance with mandatory training.

    Excellent safety systems are in place.

    Good clinical practice and guidelines exist with a proactive team approach.

    Good utilisation of risk management software as well as management of complaints/compliments.

    Assessment and care planning is well addressed.

    Credentialing of medical staff is well managed.

    Good staff and management understanding of safety systems.

    Processes are well developed for timely retrieval of records, tracking of records and security of records and information.

    Supporting privacy policies in place and patients actively informed of privacy and health record requirements.

    There is a distinct focus and fostering of partnerships with consumers, ensuring patients are active participants in decisions regarding their care.

    Regular Consumer & Carer meetings take place. Activities of the Consumer Committee are well communicated. Impressive work is done in obtaining feedback from patients. Strategic planning activities incorporate feedback from consumers.

    Consumer feedback has been used in the development of an impressive range of inpatient and day patient programs provided at Belmont Private Hospital.

    Education of the workforce includes the use of patient stories. The staff of BCPND congratulated on the publication, “An Anthology of Hope”, which includes patient stories and which is used to support workforce and development in the unit.

    A compendium of patient stories is also in development for use in the Trauma and Dissociation Unit.

    Mechanisms are established for consumers to participate in the measurement and evaluation of services. Several examples of improvements in services, generated by Consumer input include: menu changes, establishment of a gym, expansion of the art therapy programs.

    There is a documented Infection Control Plan and well developed audit and surveillance programs. Infection prevention and control activities overseen by the Infection Control Committee show high levels of compliance to the Infection Control Plan.

    The Hospital Hand Hygiene Program is supported well throughout the Hospital with hand washing facilities, hand rub solutions and hand hygiene posters.

    Cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation – the Hospital is congratulated on the high standard of cleaning that is evident throughout the facility.
